It’s Officially Been 2 Weeks Since My 2-Week Water Fast: How My Health Has Changed

It’s officially been TWO WHOLE WEEKS since I finished my 2-week water fast. And if you’re wondering what’s changed (or hasn’t changed), here’s my review of how the last two weeks have been for me health-wise and the changes I’ve noticed…. as well as the ones I wasn’t hoping for that I HAVEN’T noticed.

Quick recap, this is how much my body changed physically from the beginning of the fast to the end:

Day 5 Vs. Day 14

After 2 weeks of not consuming anything but water followed by two weeks of eating, here are ALL the changes I’ve noticed in my body:

1. My digestion VASTLY improved.

I wouldn’t be able to tell you exactly which of my organs had just deteriorated to the point where it felt like NOTHING ever sat right with me – no matter how “healthy” or “good for me” the food I was eating was, but what I CAN tell you is that before the water fast, I used to constantly be dealing with either diahhrea or constipation (more often it was constipation), but after the water fast, even though I haven’t honestly been eating the healthiest, I’ve been extremely regular, have almost no gas, and haven’t experienced an upset stomach even ONCE even though I ate from several questionable-levels-of-sanitary street carts last week!

2. Weirdly, my eyes’ sensitivity to light improved.

And also changed my eyes’ prescription (I wear glasses/contacts). It’s not a significant change, but there is definitely a difference (I notice it much more when wearing my glasses and contacts than just my natural eyes). I would say that it slightly improved my eyesight, but I haven’t been to an eye doctor and gotten any “official” confirmation, so that take that with a grain of salt if you want to.

3. My skin has never looked better.

The acne on my face and upper back is gone and hasn’t come back (again, even though I haven’t been eating the healthiest).

4. Initially, the fast significantly reduced my weight (specifically in the tummy pooch area).

However, some of the “weight” (I feel like it’s more bloat/inflammation) came back once I started eating… especially once I started eating unhealthy (here’s looking at you week #2). So here’s where I’m at “weight-wise” at the moment:

5. AND…. one change I DIDN’T notice (but was hoping I would!): The fast didn’t didn’t have the effect on my hormones and PCOS that I wanted it to have.

I was expecting to immediately get my period, just like what happens when I do a juice cleanse (Because of my PCOS, I literally do not get a period unless I do a juice cleanse once a month… it’s freaking annoying). I was also hoping it would have an immediate effect (I know, pretty naive to hope for immediate results, but still…) on some of the less desirable side effects of my PCOS. That being said, I’m curious to watch more long term how my hormone balance has been affected!

And if you’re wondering, No, there literally weren’t any lasting negative effects of the water fast on my body. The muscle fatigue I had felt throughout most of the fast went away completely on the very first day I ate solid food, and I’ve had amazing energy levels ever since (both mentally AND physically).

Also, because I haven’t really been eating that great this last week and I REALLY don’t want my 2 weeks of fasting to all be for nothing, I started a 3-day dry fast yesterday.

If you’ve never heard of this, a dry fast is exactly what it sounds like… you literally consume nothing (no food OR water) during the fasting period. This is my first time attempting a dry fast, and I’m really interested to see if I can feel the difference between fasting with water and fasting without.

Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever tried fasting or if you’re curious to know anything about it! Also, feel free to let me know if you’d be interested in reading a blog post about my 3-day dry fast?
