The Sunday Farmer’s Market at Samadi is one of my favorite weekly happenings in/around Canggu. Even if you don’t cook here in Bali, it’s definitely worth stopping by because there are tons of stalls that sell everything from fresh produce and fish to homemade kombucha, organic spices, the BEST baked goods I’ve eaten in Bali, and even clothes and jewelry. As cliche as it sounds, there’s really something for everybody at Samadi’s weekly market.
But, don’t just take my word for it. I’ve got pictures to prove that the Samadi market is the best thing happening in Canggu on Sunday!
The Food Stalls

Some people save the best for last, but that’s not really my style. I’m starting with – in my opinion – the BEST stall at the market! Everything on this table is absolutely DELICIOUS (they even have gluten-free options!) and if you come to Samadi on a Sunday for no other reason, you should come to get some treats from this table. But be sure to come early, this table is always one of the first to sell out, so if you want something specific, then you better get your butt out of bed before 12.
*My favorites are the pandan cake with coconut frosting (the green cake) and the zucchini brownie (the one with pumpkin seeds on top)!

The Roti Segar bakery comes and sets up shop each week as well to sell some yummy, ready-to-eat baked goods. Choose from a variety of savory and sweet options to eat as a snack while you look around or get some freshly baked bread to take home for the week!
*All the pies are delicious, but I love getting some fresh focaccia and heading over to the cheese table (see below) for a simple, but delicious breakfast of artisanal bread and cheese!

The market also has a locally sourced, artisanal cheese stall that sets up every week. Be sure to sample all the cheeses so you know which is your favorite, and definitely do NOT leave the market without at least trying their popular cheese ball – I dare you to not buy it. It’s sooo good! (and it pairs great with some fresh focaccia from the Roti Segar bakery stall).

This table is also one of my favorites – partly because the snacks are so yummy and partly because the guy who created them is so incredibly sweet! All of the snacks are made with tempe, and although the chips are really good (especially with his homemade sambal), the cookies are what really steal the show. They come in ginger, cashew (it tastes like butterscotch), coconut, and chocolate flavors, and you won’t be able to believe when you’re eating them just how healthy they are. The only danger here is that you won’t end up buying enough to last you more than a day because they’re so addictive!

The last “ready-made” food stall at the market sells a whole variety of different jams, jellies, and chutneys, and you can try ALL of them to see which is your favorite. They’re delicious and all made from scratch, but they’re also fairly expensive-ish… something to keep in mind before you start tasting them, because they really are SUPER yummy!

It wouldn’t be a farmer’s market in Bali if they didn’t sell homemade kombucha!
You can buy homemade kombucha and jamu at the Samadi market each week. Just bring a bunch of large reusable bottles with you and fill them up with whatever flavors you want. The drinks are delicious, and you’ll save a TON of money by buying them here in bulk than anywhere else around Canggu. Definitely worth coming to the market each week if you’re a big kombucha or jamu drinker!
The “Grocery” Stalls

There are several fresh fruit and vegetable stalls at the Samadi Market, and everything there is locally and organically produced so you can be sure you’re getting only the best ingredients!

There’s even a fresh fish stall at the market for those who aren’t vegan/vegetarian, which as someone who loves fish (and especially when it’s THIS fresh, I am completely on board with!
Unfortunately, I have no idea how to cook so I’ve never actually bought fish from them, but who knows? Maybe I’ll learn just so I can buy some 🙂

Without sounding too sales-y I really just want to emphasize that you REALLY CAN buy everything you need at the Sunday market. They have any spice or flavoring you could think of, as well as packages and packages of seeds, nuts, dried fruits, teas…. you name it! It’s absolutely amazing. And the the stall pictured on the bottom (all the brown packages) has the best dates I’ve bought in Bali!
The Samadi Market isn’t just food and groceries though….
The Shopping Stalls

You can literally go shopping for a whole new “Bali” wardrobe at the market with a “stall” that sells as wide a variety of clothes as a small store, and another stall that sells classic, beautifully made bikinis and one-pieces.

There are another 2-3 stalls that sell handcrafted, local jewelry and the same kinds of rings and bracelets that you can buy at the popular Ubud market (*although not for Ubud prices).

In addition to all-natural, toxin-free beauty products (like face wash, lip balm, shampoo, conditioner, and body scrub), you can also buy incense and a variety of essential oils.

Then there’s the random, fun stalls that sell a variety of small, cute home goods or colorful doggy bandanas and cloth backpacks. Pretty much, on top of selling all the fresh produce and delicious ready-to-eat baked goods you could want, the Samadi market is also great to visit if you’re interested in looking for a souvenir or just want to do some shopping that you can be 100% certain is made by and supports local small businesses.
So, what do you think? You planning on checking it out? If you are, let me know and maybe we can meet up!
